Thank you for considering joining UGM in serving the homeless in Dallas.  Throughout the Bible God shows his special concern for the “The Last, The Least and The Lost”.  His desire is for His people to reflect His compassion for the needy.  You can be a part of this by giving some of your time to serving the homeless people who come to our shelters.  Whatever amount of time you have to give – large or small – and whatever your talents are, your presence at the shelters will greatly encourage the men or women you meet there.  Below are just a few of the ways that you can help:

  • Serve meals
  • Collect and donate food or clothing
  • Help in the Child Care Center
  • Preach or provide music for chapel services
  • Teach adults or children, in groups or individually
  • Mentor a man or woman in the Discipleship Program
  • Donate financially and encourage others to do so
  • Co-ordinate Birthday parties each month

In a 2006 survey by the City of Dallas, there were approximately 9,200 homeless people in Dallas County. This compares to approximately 6,100 in 2005.

14% have been homeless 3 or more times, which meets the HUD definition of “chronic homelessness".

More than 1,000 of the homeless population are children or youth under the age of 18.

Seven and a half was the average age of a homeless person in Dallas as of 1999.

Based on the 2006 number of 9,200 homeless, Union Gospel Mission Dallas served approximately 4,800 individuals or 52% of the homeless population in Dallas.

In 2006, UGM Dallas served 182,000 meals, provided 72,000 nights shelter and gave 11,000 pounds of clothing to those in need.

34,680 hours of rehabilitation were offered at UGM Dallas in 2006.

8,224 hours of educational programming were offered in 2006 at UGM Dallas.

76 cents of each dollar donated to UGM Dallas is used in service to the homeless.

In a 2002 study by the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, 39% of the homeless population in Dallas had never before been homeless.

We offer these unfortunate people a new chance at life. We not only offer the truth through the gospel but a clean place to live, learn, and become self sufficient.
