Mission Statement: The Mission of Union Gospel Mission - Dallas is to provide a Gospel Mission in Dallas County which ministers to the spiritual and physical needs of the homeless and needy men, women and children while leading them to a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and restoring them to a stable productive life. Vision Statement: "All power is given unto ME in heaven and in earth, go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you: and lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the world". (Matthew 28:18-19) We walk with the risen Christ, we witness His mighty power, we work to reach and teach the infallible word of God and watch lives be transformed and conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.
As long as I can remember I have prayed to God but I didn’t know about His Son or what He did. As an adult my life was okay but I was living as if I was responsible for all that went well in my life. The only way to realize my need for a savior was to become powerless to impact anything important to me. Crack rendered me powerless. I was reduced to walking the streets, sleeping in abandoned houses and eating primarily whenever a Christian group supplied a meal. I began to hear the Gospel and a seed was planted that had an eternal destiny. However, I had no idea how to change my sinful desires. I spent 6 months in jail where I learned about the Bible. The next few years were an emotional roller coaster. God was trying to change me but my addition and disobedience prevented me from realizing this. Yet God kept me, physically and spiritually. I learned a trade and kept a job.
(Loucis now works as the Maintenance Manager at the Union Gospel Mission.).
As a child I attended Sunday school and youth group. This was the result of my mother trying to keep our family together because my father was an abusive alcoholic. She divorced him when I was 8. My stepfather tried to keep us involved in church but I had too many issues to stay interested. I became involved with the wrong people and by age 14 I was doing drugs and drinking. At 17 I had my first felony conviction. While in jail I was saved although I didn’t fully understand what it meant. I was just told that I was going to be forgiven. Two years later I returned to prison and I promised God that I would live His way if he got me home alive. However, I soon forgot that promise after my release.
In a 2006 survey by the City of Dallas, there were approximately 9,200 homeless people in Dallas County. This compares to approximately 6,100 in 2005. “Give Until It Hurts Imagine yourself sitting in front of your trusted financial advisor and hearing the words “... you are losing money everyday. In fact, thousands of dollars are falling through the cracks and lost.” Based on the 2006 number of 9,200 homeless, Union Gospel Mission Dallas served approximately 4,800 individuals or 52% of the homeless population in Dallas. |
