Message from our Executive Director
I would like to welcome you to learn about and participate in the effort of "Rescue" through the ministry of the Union Gospel Mission of Dallas. Since 1949 the compassionate care of the Dallas community has been embodied in this work in which Christians and those wanting to help "The Last, The Least and The Lost" have prayerfully and dutifully invested. Because of these investments men, women and children are coming to know the Lord Jesus Christ and discover a new path for their lives made possible through the work of a dedicated staff and volunteers.
Since 1949, through much love, sacrifice and kindness, millions of life-sustaining meals have been served to the hungry, the naked have been clothed and the most vulnerable among us have been provided sorely needed shelter, training and personal rehabilitation. The Union Gospel Mission has focused on the development of the whole man-body, soul and spirit. It is my sincere hope that your visit to our website will stir in you a desire to visit one or all of our facilities and see how you may be used by God to bring hope to the homeless. Together we can rescue the perishing, care for the dying and tell them of Jesus who is mighty to save. Come, our doors are always open to you. Sincerely, William Thompson Executive Director In a 2006 survey by the City of Dallas, there were approximately 9,200 homeless people in Dallas County. This compares to approximately 6,100 in 2005. “Give Until It Hurts Imagine yourself sitting in front of your trusted financial advisor and hearing the words “... you are losing money everyday. In fact, thousands of dollars are falling through the cracks and lost.” Based on the 2006 number of 9,200 homeless, Union Gospel Mission Dallas served approximately 4,800 individuals or 52% of the homeless population in Dallas. |
